UK casino bonus rules changed on 19 January 2026: what it means for you

New rules for online gambling promotions in Great Britain came into force on 19 January 2026. They change what a casino is allowed to ask of you before you can withdraw winnings from a bonus.

What changed

• Wagering requirements are capped at 10 times the bonus amount.
• A bonus can only be tied to one type of gambling, such as casino games. Bundles across casino, betting, bingo and lottery are no longer allowed.
• An operator should not change or reduce a bonus because you met its conditions quickly.

A worked example

Take a £10 bonus. At the new 10x limit you must place £100 of bets before the bonus winnings can be withdrawn. Many older offers asked for 30x or more, which would have meant £300 of bets for the same £10. The cap does not make a bonus free money, but it limits how far a casino can stretch the conditions.

Which offers are covered

The rules apply to promotions that give you a benefit such as bonus money, free bets or free spins. They apply to licensed operators serving Great Britain.

What did not change

The separate stake limits for online slots still apply: £5 per spin for players aged 25 and over, and £2 per spin for players aged 18 to 24. These limits cover online slots only, not games such as roulette or blackjack.

What to check before you claim a bonus

1. The wagering number. It should be no higher than 10x the bonus.
2. Which games count towards it, and how much each one counts.
3. The maximum bet while the bonus is active, and the time limit.
4. Whether your payment method is excluded from the offer.
